Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Scott's Laundry collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've written it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate, because it's meant to be read.

Who we are

Scott's Laundry is a laundry, dry cleaning and ironing service operating from Chigwell, Essex. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy.

If you have any question about your data, contact us at scott@scottslaundry.com or on 07831 692163.

What we collect

When you request a collection through this website, we ask for:

  • Your name, email address and phone number, so we can confirm the booking and reach you on the day.
  • Your collection address and postcode, so the van knows where to go and we can check you're inside our coverage area.
  • Which services you need, your preferred collection date and time window.
  • Anything you tell us in the notes box — gate codes, fabric concerns, detergent allergies, preferred contact method.

If you create an account, we also store your login email and a securely hashed password, along with the order history attached to that account. We never see or store your password in readable form.

We do not collect card details on this website. Payment is arranged directly with us after collection.

Why we collect it, and our lawful basis

  • To provide the service you've asked for — collecting, cleaning and returning your items, and invoicing you for them. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
  • To contact you about a live booking, including confirming a collection window or flagging a problem with an item. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
  • To keep records of orders and invoices for accounting and tax. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
  • To keep the website secure and working. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.

We do not send marketing email, and we do not build advertising profiles. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first and you'll be able to withdraw it at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. We do rely on a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract:

  • Vercel — hosts this website and runs the booking form.
  • Supabase — stores accounts, orders and invoices in an encrypted database.
  • Google Workspace — delivers booking notification emails to us.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

Cookies

This site uses only the cookies needed to make it work. If you log in, we set a session cookie so you stay signed in as you move between pages. There are no advertising cookies, and no third-party analytics trackers.

How long we keep it

  • Booking and order records, including invoices: six years from the end of the relevant tax year, as required for UK accounting records.
  • Account details: for as long as your account is open. Ask us to close it and we'll delete it, keeping only what we're legally required to retain.
  • Booking notification emails: routinely cleared from our mailbox once the order is complete and invoiced.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct anything that's wrong or incomplete.
  • Ask us to delete your data, where we're not required to keep it.
  • Ask us to restrict or object to how we use it.
  • Ask us to transfer it to another provider in a portable format.

Email scott@scottslaundry.com and we'll respond within one month. There's no charge for a reasonable request.

Security

Data is transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored in an encrypted database with access restricted to Scott's Laundry. Passwords are hashed and cannot be read by us. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of your details seriously and keep the number of people who can see them as small as possible.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, tell us first at scott@scottslaundry.com — we'd rather put it right ourselves. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged to account holders by email.
