Scott's Laundry

The agreement

Terms & Conditions

These are the terms you're agreeing to when you book a collection with Scott's Laundry. They set out what we'll do, what we ask of you, and where we stand if something goes wrong.

About these terms

These terms apply to every collection booked with Scott's Laundry, whether through this website, by phone or by message. By requesting a collection you accept them. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Booking a collection

Submitting the booking form is a request, not a confirmed slot. We'll be in touch to confirm your collection window before we come out. A contract between us begins when we confirm that collection.

Book before midday and we can usually collect the same afternoon. Book after midday and the soonest collection is the following morning. Collection windows are our best estimate and traffic occasionally moves them; we'll tell you if that happens.

Where we collect

We collect across Chigwell and the surrounding Essex and east London postcodes listed on our website, plus roughly a mile beyond them. The postcode checker on the homepage is the quickest way to confirm. If you're just outside, ask anyway — we'd rather hear from you than turn you away by default.

Prices, counting and invoicing

Published prices are per item unless stated otherwise, and are inclusive of collection and delivery. There is a minimum order value of £20.

We collect first, then count and invoice you before anything is cleaned. That way you see the final figure and can change your mind on any item before we start. If the count differs from what you expected, tell us and we'll go through it with you.

Service Wash is charged by weight, measured on collection. Curtains and rugs are charged per square metre and are measured at our premises. Prices may change, but never for an order we've already invoiced.

Payment

Payment is due on delivery of your cleaned items unless we've agreed otherwise in writing. We accept bank transfer; the account details appear on your invoice. We may hold items until payment clears on overdue accounts.

Turnaround

Most laundry, shirt and ironing work is returned within 24 hours of cleaning starting. Bed linen, towels and soft furnishings are usually 48 hours. Curtains and speciality cleaning can take up to two weeks.

These are targets rather than guarantees. If an item needs a second treatment, or a stain needs a specialist process, we'd rather take an extra day and get it right — we'll always tell you.

Your items

We clean in line with the care label on each garment. Where a label is missing, unreadable or plainly wrong for the fabric, we'll use our judgement and treat the item as delicately as the fabric appears to need.

  • Please empty pockets before collection. We can't accept responsibility for anything left in them.
  • Please tell us about detergent allergies or sensitivities when you book — there's a box on the form for exactly this, and we'll use a suitable alternative.
  • Please don't send us anything of exceptional monetary or sentimental value without telling us first, so we can agree how to handle it.
  • Point out stains, damage and repairs when you book. Some marks are permanent by the time they reach us, and knowing what caused one is often the difference between removing it and setting it.

If something goes wrong

We handle every item by hand and we take care of them. Occasionally something still goes wrong. If it does, tell us within seven days of delivery and we'll deal with it.

If you're not happy with how something has been cleaned, we will re-clean it free. That's a standing promise, not a negotiation.

Where an item is lost or damaged through our fault, we will compensate you fairly, taking into account the item's age and condition. Compensation is capped at ten times the cleaning charge for that item unless we've agreed a higher value with you in writing before collection. We are not liable for pre-existing damage, colour loss or shrinkage caused by a manufacturer's fault or an incorrect care label, or for items that fail because of wear they already had.

None of this limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Cancellations

Cancel or move a collection at any point before the van sets off and there's nothing to pay. Once cleaning has started we can't unwind it, so the invoiced amount stands.

Uncollected items

If we can't deliver your items and can't reach you, we'll hold them safely and keep trying. After three months we may dispose of or donate uncollected items, having given you at least 30 days' written notice at the contact details you gave us.

Accounts

If you create an account, keep your login details to yourself — you're responsible for activity under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access. We may suspend an account that's being misused.

Complaints

Contact scott@scottslaundry.com or call 07831 692163. We aim to acknowledge every complaint within two working days and resolve it within fourteen. We're a small local business; a phone call usually sorts it faster than anything else.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page at the point you book is the one that applies to that order.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute.
